Old Westbury, N.Y. (March 21) -- On Sunday
afternoon, the Saint Anselm softball team dropped a pair of
non-league games to NYIT by finals of 11-10 and 16-3 to drop to 7-7
overall on the season. The Hawks have now dropped four straight
non-league games after a 16-day layoff.
Game One: NYIT 11, Saint Anselm 10
In game one, the Hawks jumped out early to a 2-0 lead after a
two-run homer from Kayla McEachern (Stoneham,
Mass.). The Bears tied the game in the bottom of the
inning before a two-RBI double by senior Moira McCabe
(Brookline, N.H.) put the Hawks back in front 4-2 in the
top of the second. NYIT narrowed the lead to 4-3 in the bottom
before Amanda Massad (Grafton, Mass.) hit her
second home run in as many days in fourth to push the lead back to
5-3 heading into the bottom of the fourth.
NYIT tied the game in the fourth and used a six-run fifth to
push the lead to 11-5 after five innings. Raylyn Glavin
(Saugus, Mass.) drove in a single run in the sixth, along
with four runs in the seventh before coming up just short. The
seventh-inning rally was keyed by a two-RBI double to left center
by Jackie Giannino (Beverly, Mass.).
Game Two: NYIT 16, Saint Anselm 3
In a five-inning game, NYIT scored 14 runs in the second inning to
sweep the Hawks. Saint Anselm added a single run in the third and
two more in the fourth before falling by the 16-3 final. Freshman
Kryssie Cudmore (Woburn, Mass.) took the loss for
the Hawks.
