Manchester, N.H. (February 3) -- Saint Anselm
jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead and never looked back as the Hawks
cruised to a 67-52 victory over Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday
night in men's basketball action. The Hawks are ranked No. 5 in
this week's NCAA East Region Poll.
The Hawks led by a 10-0 margin after 4:21 and held 30-9
advantage with 2:30 left in the first half after a three-pointer
from junior Pat Luptowski (Keene, N.H.). After
taking a 32-14 lead into halftime, the lead was cut down to 13
early in the second period on a quick 5-0 SNHU run. At that point,
Saint Anselm junior Thomas Baudinet (Watertown,
Conn.) and drained six three-pointers as the Hawks pushed
the lead to as many as 29 with 8:10 left in the game.
Southern New Hampshire pulled to within 15 in the final minute
on a three from Bill Marsden (Pelham,
N.H.) as the Hawks won for the seventh time in the
last eight games.
Baudinet was the lone Hawk in double figures as he finished with
24 points on 8-for-13 shooting, including 6-for-10 from behind the
three-point arc. Tory Stapleton (Rahway, N.J.) was
the lone Penman in double figures with 12 points.
Baudinet now has 1,093 career points, which moves him into 35th
place on the Saint Anselm all-time scoring list.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 14-7 overall and 10-6 in the
Northeast-10, while the Penmen fall to 13-8 overall and 8-8 in the
league. The Hawks are back in action on Saturday afternoon as the
team travels to Merrimack for a 3 p.m. start. That game is
