Clermont, Fla. (February 28) -- On day one of
the NTC Spring Games in Florida, the Saint Anselm softball team
opened with a 1-2 showing in a three-game opening day. The Hawks
took game one by a 5-3 final before falling to Tampa and
Michigan-Dearborn in the other two games.
Game One: Saint Anselm 5, Lake Superior State 3 (8
innings)
In game one, the Hawks trailed 3-1 heading into the
seventh inning before a two-RBI double by Lizzy LeBrun
(Rowley, Mass.) scored Lauren Galvatotti (Marion,
Mass.) and Liz Trafton (Berwick, Maine)
tied the game at 3-3. In the top of the eighth, Kayla McEachern
(Stoneham, Mass.) tripled to drive in Raylyn Glavin
(Saugus, Mass.) with the go-ahead run and Jackie
Giannino (Beverly, Mass.) doubled to plate McEachern for
an insurance run. Shannon Dalton (Concord,
Mass.) (1-0) picked up her first career win after
relieving starter Lisa Caruso (Granby, Conn.) in
the fifth inning.
Game Two: Tampa 7, Saint Anselm 2
In the 7-2 loss to Tampa, the Hawks were led by a two-hit
outing from Moira McCabe (Brookline, Mass.), along
with a solo home run in the fourth inning. In the fifth, freshman
Kylene Pease (Ashland, Mass.) scored her first
career run for the other Saint Anselm run. Senior Megan
Lemire (Worcester, Mass.) fell to 0-1 on the season with
the loss.
Game Three: Michigan-Dearborn 18, Saint Anselm 4 (5
innings)
Saint Anselm jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first
before falling by an 18-4 final to Michigan-Dearborn. Liz Trafton
has a two-RBI double to drive in McCabe and McEachern in the first.
A two-RBI double by LeBrun later in the game scored McEachern and
Trafton with the other two runs. Britnee O'Neill (Ashland,
Mass.) took the loss for Saint Anselm, falling to 0-1 on
the season.
