CLINTON, N.Y. - The Saint Anselm men's hockey
team travelled to Clinton, N.Y. this evening for an
inter-conference game against NESCAC member Hamilton College.
For the second consecutive game, freshman Tucker
Mullin (Andover, Mass.) scored a hat trick to lead the
Hawks to a 4-2 victory over the Continentals. The win lifts
the Hawks to 11-8-1 (8-7-1 ECAC East), while the Continentals fall
to 11-8-2 (8-7-1 NESCAC).
Just 26 seconds after the opening faceoff, Tucker Mullin netted a
pass from Evan Gogonis (Northborough, Mass.) and
Paul Snell (Groton, Mass.) to give the Hawks a
very early 1-0 lead. Two full periods went by with no score,
until 6:43 into the third, when Gogonis and Nick Wheeler
(Nashua, N.H.) set up Mullin for his second goal of the
game, this one on a power play.
Matching penalties at 9:54 in the third, led to a 4-on-4
situation, and at 10:20, Chris Lorenc put the Continentals on the
board off a pass from Joe Buicko to cut the Hawks' lead in half.
However, just nine seconds later, Coleman Noonan
(Norfolk, Mass.) won the faceoff and sent the puck to
Ryan Holley (Owings, Md.) who set up freshman
John Hyslip (Andover, Mass.) for the Hawks' third
goal of the night.
At 14:36 in the third, the Continentals took out goaltender Scott
Hefferman and sent in an extra attacker. 31 seconds later,
Lorenc and BJ Lalonde assisted Buicko, who brought the Continentals
back within one. Nevertheless, 40 seconds later, at 15:47,
Tucker Mullin scored his third goal of the night, completing his
second consecutive hat trick, a feat that no Hawk has done in
recent history, and securing the Hawks a 4-2 victory.
Hawk goaltender Alex Wyse (Amherst, N.Y.) made 30
saves in the game to pick up his seventh win of the season.
Hefferman turned aside 24 shots, taking the loss. The
Hawks return to action tomorrow afternoon, when they take on the
No. 11 Amherst College Lord Jeffs at 3:00 pm.
