Hawks Earn 2-0 Shutout Win at Home Over Beacons

Manchester, N.H. (December 4) --  Amy Zappen (Huntington Beach, Calif.) was forced to make just 12 saves en route to her first shutout of the season this afternoon against UMass.-Boston. The Hawks racked up 49 shots on target in the game, scoring twice in the 2-0 win over the Beacons.

Beacon goaltender Leah Hallett (Rocky Hill, Conn.) played an excellent game, making all 49 saves between the pipes for UMass.-Boston. She kept the Hawks scoreless for 40 minutes and held off five-of-six Hawk power plays. Rosemarie Giarrusso (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) scored the Hawks first goal just 12 seconds into the third period. Sarah Ellins (Greeley, Colo.) collected her fourth assist of the season on the goal.

Kaitlin O'Brien (South Boston, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season on a power play with 12:31 remaining in the game on passes from Angela Zevnik (Greenfield, Wisc.) and Kathryn Picarello (West Roxbury, Mass.). With just under two-and-a-half minutes left in the game, Giarrusso picked up a goaltender interference penalty, giving the Beacons a five-on-four advantage. Before the faceoff, they pulled Hallett, giving UMass a six-on-four advantage. The Hawks stood strong and held off Beacon attack, keeping the shutout in the process.

The Hawks will be in action again following the December break. The team will travel to Colby College on January 4th for a 7:00 pm game, before flying to Minnesota to play two games on the 7th and 8th.
