Dudley, Mass. (November 5th) -- For the second straight game, the Saint Anselm Hawks women's hockey team scored six goals in a 6-3 win over Nichols College. Led by two goals from Molly Corl (Danvers, Mass.), the Hawks scored five-unanswered goals after trailing 2-0 early.
The Bison scored their first goals with 10:46 left in the first period when Hannah Tardif (Laconia, N.H.), followed by an Emily Larosa (Weymouth, Mass.) goal six minutes later to take a 2-0 lead. The Hawks answered with 1:48 remaining in the period on Corl's first goal of the game. The goal propelled the Hawks with major momentum heading into the locker room.
Two and a half minutes into the second period, the Hawks tied the game when senior Kristen Byrne (Duxbury, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season. Rosemarie Giarrusso (Royal Palm Garden, Fla.) notched her second goal of the year to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead. Aly Zappen (Huntington Beach, Calif.) scored her first goal of the year, which proved to be the game-winning goal at 4-2.
Just 49 seconds into the third period, Corl scored her second goal of the game. To make the score 6-2 three minutes later, Angela Zevnik (Greenfield, Wisc.) scored the Hawks final goal of the game. Nichols tallied a third goal, but it wasn't enough to skate passed the Hawks.
Between the pipes for Saint Anselm, Carley Berry (Danvers, Mass.) played in her first game of the season and is now 1-0-0, making 15 saves.
As a team, the Hawks put 53 shots on goal, including 24 in the second period.
Saint Anselm improves 2-0-0 and 1-0-0 in the conference, while the Bison fall to 0-1 overall. The Hawks are on the road again tomorrow to take on Manhattanville at 7:00 pm. They open their home schedule on November 12th at 7:00 pm against Salve Regina.
