Manchester, N.H. (November 28) -- Senior guard Pat Luptowski (Keene, N.H.) knocked down six three-pointers, including four in the second half, as Saint Anselm held off a furious Franklin Pierce rally for an 87-79 victory over the Ravens on Sunday afternoon at Stoutenburgh Gym.
Leading by as many as 20 points in the first half and by a 72-55 margin with just 9:33 left in the game, Saint Anselm withstood a Franklin Pierce rally that cut the lead down to two points at 75-73 with 4:12 left. The Hawks had built the double-digit lead behind the clutch shooting of Luptowski from the outside, along with a spectacular first half of play from junior forward Jack Keough (Owego, N.Y.) and freshman forward Allen Harris (Roslindale, Mass.). Keough finished the game with a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Harris posted his first career double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
With the game at two points late, the Hawks pushed the advantage back to four at 77-73 as Harris drove the lane for the easy layup. Kinard Dozier (Dedham, Mass.) caught the Hawks off guard on the next possession and scored two of his game-high 27 points to make it a two-point game yet again and the teams traded baskets for the next minute. Five Saint Anselm free throws, including two from senior All-American candidate Thomas Baudinet (Watertown, Conn.) with 16.4 seconds left, helped seal the game for the Hawks.
Saint Anselm had four players in double figures with Harris, Luptowski, Keough and Baudinet. Baudinet finished the game with 15 points and now has 1,436 career points, just 12 points shy of moving into 11th place on the Saint Anselm all-time scoring list. Baudinet also led the team with a career-high seven assists, finding Luptowski for a number of open looks from deep. Saint Anselm shot 46.2 percent from the field for the game, hitting 10 three-pointers and outscoring the Ravens 17-6 at the free throw line.
Dozier led all scorers with 27 points on 10-for-19 shooting from the field, while Eric Jean-Guillaume (Stamford, Conn.) finished with 19 points and six turnovers. Adedamola Abu (Mattapan, Mass.) led the Ravens with 11 rebounds to go along with seven points and a team-high three assists.
With the victory, Saint Anselm improves to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Ravens fall to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the league. Saint Anselm is back in action on Wednesday, December 1 as the Hawks travel to Stonehill College for a 7:30 p.m. start at Merkert Gym.
