Albany, N.Y. (November 14) -- Led by a 30-point effort from senior All-American candidate Thomas Baudinet (Watertown, Conn.), the Saint Anselm men's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 91-80 victory over Dominican on the second day of the NE-10 Challenge.
The Hawks came out firing in the first half and led by a 39-25 margin with five minutes remaining in the first half. Saint Anselm closed the half on 11-3 run, led by 21 points in the period by Baudinet, along with 17 from freshman Allen Harris (Roslindale, Mass.) for the 50-28 lead.
In the second half, the Hawks led 73-48 with just 9:30 remaining on the clock before the Chargers closed to within nine at 87-78 with 1:45 left in the contest. The Hawks had led by as many as 27 points at 80-53 before a 14-0 Charger run cut the lead to 13 points just 2:15 later as Dominican converted four straight three-pointers. Saint Anselm held off the Dominican run though to end the opening weekend unbeaten.
Baudinet led Saint Anselm with 30 points, while Harris posted a career-high 21 points. Junior Jack Keough (Owego, N.Y.) posted his second straight double-digit game as he added 17 points and six rebounds, including a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line. Sophomore guard James Morse (Arundel, Maine) also added 11 points.
Leon Porter was the top scorer for the Chargers with 26 points, including a 10-for-13 showing at the free throw line. Porter had six turnovers in the game however, as the Chargers turned the ball over 17 times compared to 11 for Saint Anselm.
Saint Anselm returns to action on Wednesday, November 17th at 7:30 p.m. as Southern New Hampshire visits Stoutenburgh Gym for the team's Northeast-10 Conference opener.
