Quick Start Leads Hawks to 3-1 Win in Home Opener

Manchester, N.H. (November 12) --  Scoring twice in the first two minutes, the Saint Anselm Hawks women's ice hockey team defeated Salve Regina by 3-1 final. The Hawks outshot the Seahawks 42-10 en route to the win.

Sarah Ellins (Greeley, Colo.) scored her second goal of the season just 1:05 into the game on a great pass from Courtney Winters (Swampscott, Mass.) towards the net. Rosemarie Giarrusso (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) also assisted on the goal, giving her six on the year. 45 seconds later, Saint Anselm tacked on a power play goal scored by Alexa Hingston (Charleston, Mass.).

Midway through the first period, Salve Regina scored their lone goal of the game by Kristen Cokely (Cambridge, Mass.).

The Hawks added another goal 22 seconds into the third period by Bridget Sylvester (Randolph, N.J.) for her first goal of the season.

The Hawks, who are now 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the league, return to action tomorrow to take on Holy Cross. Salve Regina returns to action tomorrow at 2:00 pm, opening their home schedule against UMass.-Boston.
