Garden City, N.Y. (October 9) -- On a sunny
Saturday afternoon in New York, the Saint Anselm field hockey team
dropped a 5-1 final to host Adelphi in Northeast-10 Conference
action. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 1-8 overall and 1-2 in
Northeast-10 Conference play. Adelphi is now 5-4 overall.
The Panthers got on the board first just under seven minutes in
when Jeannette Heimerle scored her first of three
goals on the afternoon. Jamie Ackerman scored just
under four minutes later, along with another score from Heimerle
for a 3-0 Panther lead at the half.
Heimerle scored early in the second half, along with a goal from
Julianne Gerbino, to make it 5-0 Adelphi with 28
minutes to play. Saint Anselm freshman Elizabeth Sears
(Danvers, Mass.) scored her first career goal at the 66:27
mark to account for the 5-1 final.
Sophomore Megan Sullivan
(Braintree, Mass.) made 14 saves in the loss, while Lucia
Vigliotti had four saves.
Saint Anselm is back in action on October 12th, traveling to
Bentley for a 7 p.m. start in Waltham.
