Waltham, Mass. (October 12) -- Despite jumping
out to an early 1-0 first-half lead, the Saint Anselm field hockey
team dropped a 3-1 final to Bentley University on Tuesday night in
Northeast-10 Conference play. Saint Anselm now sits at 1-9 overall
and 1-3 in league play.
Freshman Nicole Foley
(Falmouth, Maine) got the Hawks on the board at the 22:40
mark with her first career goal off a penalty corner. Assisting on
the goal was sophomore Nicole Guimond
(Fairfield, Maine) and sophomore Maura Hurley (Holden,
Mass.). The Falcons answered right back just 3:12 later,
converting a corner opportunity of their own for the 1-1 tie.
Kaitlyn Marcinek (Southbury, Conn.) scored
the goal, her second of the season, while Stephanie Sideris
(Watertown, Mass.) recorded the assist.
After a 1-1 first half, the Falcons took the 2-1 lead eight
minutes into the second half as Marcinek and Sideris connected for
the second time in the game. Sideris carried the ball downfield
before finding Marcinek for her third goal of the season. Bentley
added to the lead at the 58:09 mark as Beth Maguire
(Medfield, Mass.) scored her sixth goal of the season
as the Falcons put four shots on goal in four minutes early in the
second half.
Sophomore Lindsay MacDonald
(Dedham, Mass.) turned aside nine shots in the defeat,
while Julia Powell (Southbury, Conn.) made
three saves for the win. Bentley improves to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in
Northeast-10 play with the victory.
Saint Anselm is back in action on Saturday, October 16th as the
Hawks host Saint Michael's for a 2 p.m. start.
