Manchester, N.H. (October 9) -- On a
windy Saturday afternoon at Grappone Stadium, the Saint Anselm
football team dropped a 27-7 final to visiting American
International in Northeast-10 Conference action. The loss makes it
an 11-3 advantage in favor of AIC in the all-time series.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board just 3:01 into the first
period as Rob Parent (West Warwick, R.I.) found
freshman Cal Brownridge (Newark, N.J.) across the
middle for a 34-yard score. Brownridge caught the ball on the far
side of the field, then cut across to the near pylon for the score.
After a Parent 65-yard scoring pass to Andre Samuels
(Linden, N.J.) to make it 14-0 after one quarter, the
Yellow Jackets extended the lead midway thru the second quarter.
Trevor Perryman (Centereach, N.Y.) hauled in a
25-yard pass in the far corner of the end zone, juggling the ball
and coming down with it for Parent's third scoring pass of the
opening half. Parent threw for 212 yards in the opening half,
completing 9-of-16 passing attempts in the half.
AIC stretched the lead to 27-0 with 4:24 left in the third
quarter as Perryman caught a wide-open eight-yard touchdown pass
for his second TD catch of the game. The play was set up by an
89-yard run by sophomore Courtney Stephenson (Paterson,
N.J.) down inside the 10-yard line.
Saint Anselm got on the board with 8:43 left in the fourth
quarter as Keith Charles
(Laurel, Md.) ran up the middle from two yards out for his
third touchdown of the season and a 27-7 score.
Freshman Tyrae
Woodson-Samuels (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) completed 25-of-42
pass attempts for 175 yards, along with leading the team with 92
yards on the ground in his first career start. Charles also ran for
55 yards and caught seven passes for 29 yards. Junior All-American
candidate Marc Wilson
(Farmington, Conn.) was the team leader with 10 receptions
for 44 yards. Freshman Justin Bernard
(Cambridge, Mass.) led the team with 79 yards receiving,
including a 59-yard reception. Brendan Timmons
(Franklin, Mass.) led the Hawk defense with eight tackles,
along with a six-tackle effort by Mark Colantonio
(Londonderry, N.H.).
AIC was led by a 139-yard day on the ground by Stephenson, as
well as a 227-yard, four-touchdown afternoon by Parent.
Allen Bush (Newark, N.J.) and Nick Abraham
(Tewksbury, Mass.) led the Yellow Jacket defense with 11
tackles each.
With the loss, Saint Anselm falls to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the
Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 3-3 overall and
3-1 in the league. Saint Anselm is off next week, but returns
to action on the road at Assumption on October 23.
