Manchester, N.H. (October 5) -- Led by a pair
of goals from junior captain Caitlin Hurley (Cape
Elizabeth, Maine), the Saint Anselm field hockey team
defeated Assumption by a 5-0 final on Tuesday afternoon in
Northeast-10 Conference action.
Hurley put the Hawks up just 5:59 into the opening half with her
first goal of the season, assisted on by senior Sara Griffin (Derry,
N.H.). The Hawks pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 14th minute
as Kristina Katsikis
(Hanover, Mass.) tallied her third goal of the season, off
an assist from sophomore Nicole Guimond
(Fairfield, Maine) for her first career point. Griffin
scored in the 20th minute before Hurley converted a penalty corner
attempt for her second goal at the 22:40 mark to make it a 4-0
score for the Hawks.
After a 4-0 halftime lead for the Hawks, junior Stephanie
Chaisson (Methuen, Mass.) scored her second goal of
the season off a great pass from freshman Elizabeth Sears
(Danvers, Mass.).
Sophomore Lindsay MacDonald
(Dedham, Mass.) made six saves, while Assumption's
Danielle Luongo turned aside 10 shots in the
defeat.
Saint Anselm improves to 1-7 overall and 1-1 in Northeast-10
Conference play, while Assumption remains winless at 0-9 overall
and 0-4 in the league. The Hawks return to action on Saturday
afternoon when the team travels to Adelphi for a Northeast-10
contest in Garden City, N.Y.
