(Burlington, Vt.) -- Despite a 19-point, seven-rebound effort from sophomore Morgan Frame (Waterville, Maine), the Saint Anselm women's basketball team dropped a 58-55 final in an exhibition game at Division I Vermont on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks were 10-for-19 from three-point land as well in nearly pulling off the upset over the Catamounts.
After trailing 32-19 at the half, the Hawks pulled to within six at 51-45 with 7:57 remaining following a three-pointer from senior Jen Gureckis (Nashua, N.H.). Gureckis finished the game with four three-pointers and 12 points in 33 minutes of play.
Trailing by six points with just 3:15 left, the Hawks used a layup by Frame and another Gureckis trifecta to get within 54-53 with 1:18 remaining in the game. The Catamounts knocked down four free throws in the final minute to hold off the Hawks.
Frame finished 6-for-7 shooting from the field and hit 7-of-8 free throw attempts, while Gureckis knocked down 4-of-8 three-point attempts. Junior guard Epiphany Smith (Springdale, Ark.), a Northeast-10 Second Team All-Conference selection as a sophomore, finished with 15 points and four assists while knocking down 5-of-9 three-point attempts.
