Hawks Fall in Their Final Game, 3-2

Epping, N.H. (October 27th) - - Due to a wet field at Saint Anselm, the Saint Anselm Hawks women's soccer team was in action in Epping, N.H. this afternoon against No. 25 Franklin Pierce. Emma Furlone (Keene, N.H.) scored on an impressive goal to open the scoring. Despite goal, the Hawks fell in the game by a 3-2 final.

Furlone's goal was the first of her career, and came in the 14th minute. She shot the ball from about 40-yards out and it dropped in over the keeper's head just inside the right post. Jackie Cooney (Braintree, Mass.) made seven saves for the Hawks in the half. Franklin Pierce forced the issue many times, and as a result we caught offside seven times.

Franklin Pierce opened their scoring when Jannice Sundqvist (Harnosand, Sweden) in the 70th minute scored on an assisted goal. The Ravens scored their game-winning goal in the 73rd minute on an Aya Noguchi (Tokyo, Japan) goal on a great pass from Shona Franklin (Birmingham, England). Cooney made two saves in the half. Teresa Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) added another goal for the Hawks late to make the score a 3-2 final.

The Hawks finish their season 5-10-1 overall and 5-9-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference.  Franklin Pierce ends its regular season at 12-4-1 overall and 10-4-1 in the league.
