Manchester, N.H. (October 26th) -- On their
final game of the regular season, the Saint Anselm Hawks men's
soccer team played the Bentley University Falcons to a 1-0 loss.
The Hawks were able to outshoot the Falcons 9-5 over the course of
the game, but could not find the back of the net.
The first half was evenly played through the entire 45 minutes,
although the Hawks were forced to play a man down after Joshua Rocco
(North Reading, Mass) was issued a red card in the ninth
minute. The Falcons forced Hawks goalkeeper Eric Moriarty
(Center Harbor, N.H.) to make just one save, putting one
shot on goal. The Hawks were only able to put two shots on target,
one from Keesen Howe (Norwich,
Conn.), and one from Dave Hugel (Simsbury,
Conn.). The two teams finished the half scoreless.
Just three minutes into the second half, Bentley's Tyler
Kahn (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal
on a cross from Breenen DaCosta (San Diego,
Calif.). The Hawks best opportunity came from Jon Britton
(South Hamilton, Mass.) took a shot from just outside the
18-yard box about halfway through the period. The ball was cleanly
plucked from the air by Falcon goalkeeper Mike Nikiforov
(Framingham, Mass.) who had to take three steps to his
left to save the ball.
The Hawks finish the season 5-12-1 overall and 4-8-1 in
Northeast-10 Conference play. Bentley's record now stands at 10-2-4
overall and 7-1-4 in the league with a game remaining against AIC
