Manchester, N.H. (October 2) -- Though it
looked as though the Hawks would get on the scoreboard late in the
second half, Southern Connecticut's senior goalie
Lauren Zarella (Morris, Conn.) thought otherwise,
tallying five saves in the second half as the Owls came away with
the 4-0 final.
The Owl's confidence was quickly boosted as sophomore
Erica Fisher (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) netted a pair
of goals in the first 30 minutes of play. Freshman Sarah
Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) did her part, assisting on two
of the Owls four goals this afternoon.
The Hawks offense was led by sophomore Kristina Katsikis
(Hanover, Mass.) who sent a number of strong crosses into
the circle. Katsikis also registered three shots in the contest,
while juniors Sara Sterling (Mansfield, Mass.) and
captain Caitlin Hurley (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) had
three and four shots, respectively.
Saint Anselm goalie Megan Sullivan (Braintree,
Mass.) recorded nine saves while allowing three scores in
the first half, while Lindsay MacDonald (Dedham,
Mass.) allowed one goal and saved three shots in the
second half of today's contest.
With the loss, Saint Anselm falls to 0-7 overall, while Southern
Connecticut State improves to 3-6 on the season. Saint Anselm
returns to action on Tuesday afternoon, hosting the Assumption
Greyhounds in a 4:00 p.m. start.
