Waterford, Conn. (October 16) -- The Saint
Anselm men's cross country team placed 15th on Saturday at the
Connecticut College Invitational, hosted at Harkness Park. The
Hawks finished the meet with 399 points and were the third Division
II team to finish. UConn and Tufts shared the overall team
title.
Leading the way was senior Drew Matthews (Madison,
Conn.) in 40th place as he covered the eight-kilometer
course in 26:47, running at a 5:24 pace. Following Matthews was
freshman Kevin Soucey (Windham, N.H.), who placed
68th in 27:15 for a 5:29 pace per mile. Co-captains John
Surabian (Saugus, Mass.) and Christopher Powers
(Haverhill, Mass.) also broke 30 minutes in the race, with
Surabian placing 144th in 28:38 and Powers posting a 162nd-place
finish in 29:08.
The Hawks are off until November 7th, when the team travels to
Stonehill College for the Northeast-10 Championship.
