MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Anselm women's ice
hockey team hosted the New England College Pilgrims this afternoon
in ECAC East Conference play. The Hawks significantly outshot
the Pilgrims, but only one shot counted in the end, as the Pilgrims
came away with a 1-0 victory. The win lifts the Pilgrims to
7-9-3 (5-6-2 ECAC East), while the Hawks fall to 9-6-1 (7-3-1 ECAC
East).
The Hawks dominated the first two periods, outshooting the
Pilgrims 32-12, including 18-3 in the second period alone, but none
of the shots could find the back of the net, as the two teams
headed into the third period tied 0-0. However, at 2:35 in
the third, Kaleigh Costello (Hudson, N.H.) drove
the puck in and knocked her own rebound past Amy Zappen
(Huntington Beach, Calif.) to put the Pilgrims up
1-0. A Pilgrim penalty at 19:10 in the third gave the Hawks a
50-second 6-on-4 advantage, but they were still unable to penetrate
the Pilgrims' solid defense, as they fell 1-0.
Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine) made 43 saves
en route to her second shutout of the season. Amy Zappen
stopped 22 shots but allowed the only goal of the game, taking the
loss. The Hawks hit the road next Friday night, January 29th,
to take on the Nichols College Bison in an ECAC East Conference
game beginning at 7:30 pm.
