NORTHFIELD, VT. - The Saint Anselm men's ice
hockey team took on the first-place, undefeated Norwich University
Cadets this evening in an ECAC East Conference game.
After averaging six goals per game in their last four outings, the
Hawks' offense hit a dry spell, as they were shut out 5-0 by the
Cadets. The win extends the Cadets' unbeaten streak to 15
games, while the Hawks' four-game hot streak came to an end.
The Cadets are now 12-0-3 (8-0-1 ECAC East), and the Hawks are
6-5-1 (4-4-1 ECAC East).
The Cadets scored during the 10th minute in all three
periods. Craig Serino (Saugus, Mass.) put
Norwich on the board at 10:10 in the first. DJ
Fimiani (Melrose, Mass.), who assisted Serino's goal,
scored the Cadets' next goal at 10:03 in the second.
Kyle Thomas (Waltham, Mass.) then netted a
power-play goal at 16:55 for his team-leading 11th goal of the
season.
A Saint Anselm power play midway through the third period gave
the Hawks' hope for a comeback, but at 10:44, Chad Anderson
(Dartmouth, N.S.) knocked in a pass from Serino to score
the team's third shorthanded goal of the season. With 30
seconds remaining in the game, Emmond Bell (Nepean,
Ont.) tacked on one more, for a final score of 5-0.
Alex Wyse (Amherst, N.Y.) made 30 tough saves
for the Hawks, and Ryan Klingensmith (Morton, Pa.)
stopped 15 shots to pick up his fourth shutout of the season.
The Hawks return home next Friday night, when they take on NESCAC
member Williams College in an inter-conference game beginning at
7:00 pm.
