Garden City, N.Y. (September 6) -- In their
first meeting as Northeast-10 opponents, the Saint Anselm field
hockey team dropped a 5-2 final to Adelphi University on Sunday
afternoon. The Panthers joined the Northeast-10 as a member
beginning this fall.
The Hawks got out to a fast start as Maddie
Cantarow (Norwood, Mass.) scored on a penalty stroke at
the 13:51 mark of the first half. Just 3:08 later though,
Julianne Gerbino found the back of the net to tie
the game at 1-1. The Hawks bounced back though with the second goal
of the season by freshman Kristina Katsikis (Hanover,
Mass.), which was assisted on by freshman Maura
Hurley (Holden, Mass.). The Panthers managed to tie the
game though just 19 seconds before the halftime break on a goal
from Brittany Kinsley.
In the second half it was all Adelphi as the Panthers tallied
three goals to pull away for the 5-2 victory.
Lindsey MacDonald (Dedham, Mass.) made 10 saves
in net and took the loss, while Lucia Vigliotti
made six stops in the victory.
With the loss, the Hawks drop to 0-3 overall, while Adelphi is
