Cantarow Lifts Hawks to 3-2 Double OT Victory

Video Highlights from Today's Game

Manchester, N.H. (September 25) -- Midway through the second overtime period, senior Maddie Cantarow (Norwood, Mass.) took a pass from Caitlin Hurley (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and blasted a shot past the Limestone goalie for a thrilling 3-2 double-overtime victory over the Lady Saints.

Limestone had tied the game at 2-2 in the final minutes of regulation to send the game to the extra period. This also marks the second overtime game of the season for Saint Anselm at home.

The Hawks took the lead at 22:02 as Hurley scored after a battle for the ball in front of the net and notched her second goal of the season. The Lady Saints answered though just 2:26 later as Audrey King (Woodbridge, Va.) redirected a shot by Abigail Rummel (Reading, Pa.) to tie the game at 1-1, King's second goal of the season.

After a 1-1 halftime tie, the Hawks regained the lead at the 43:34 mark as Maura Hurley (Holden, Mass.) scored off a penalty corner for the 2-1 advantage. Assisting on that goal was freshman Nicole Guimond (Fairfield, Maine).

In the waning moments of regulation, Aimee Rodriguez (Gambrills, Md.) took the ball at midfield for the Lady Saints and into Saint Anselm's end of the field. After tipping the ball between a Hawk defender and one of her own players, Rodriguez found the far corner of the goal, just past the outstretched pads of Hawk netminder Lindsay MacDonald (Dedham, Mass.), to tie the game at 2-2.

Limestone held a 4-1 edge in shots in the first overtime, with neither team finding a shot on goal. In the second overtime it took just two shots for the game winner as Cantarow took a pass from Hurley and scored her second goal of the season and her first game winner.

MacDonald made five saves and picked up her first career victory in the process, while Julie Medeiros (Derry, N.H.) took the loss for Limestone after playing the final 50:43 of the contest.

Saint Anselm is now 1-8 overall on the season, while Limestone drops to 1-6 overall. Saint Anselm is back in action on Saturday afternoon, hosting Adelphi for a 4 p.m. start. Limestone wraps up the trip to New England with a Sunday meeting with Assumption.
