Manchester, N.H. (September 2) -- In the season
opener for Saint Anselm, the Hawks dropped a 7-1 final to visiting
Saint Michael's in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon.
The loss drops the Hawks to 0-1, while Saint Michael's is now 1-2
overall.
The Purple Knights struck first as Taylor Wahrenbrock
(Chapel Hill, N.C.) scored an unassisted goal at 10:39 for
a 1-0 lead for the visitors. Saint Anselm answered right back
though nearly eight minutes later as Kristina Katsikis
(Hanover, Mass.) tallied her first career score to knot
things at 1-1 midway through the opening half. The visitors scored
twice before the break though and took a 3-1 lead into halftime.
In the second period it was all Purple Knights as senior
co-captain Kaitlin Koffink, a native of Goffstown,
N.H., tallied a hat trick in the half to lead the visitors to the
7-1 win. She capped off the hat trick on a goal with 19 seconds
remaining in the game. Natalie Elvidge (Newton,
N.J.) assisted on that goal and finished the game with a
pair of assists.
Freshman Lindsey MacDonald (Dedham, Mass.) made
her first start in net for Saint Anselm, turning aside nine shots
in the defeat. Meghan McLaughlin (Cape Elizabeth,
Maine) made four saves to pick up her first win of the
season.
Saint Anselm hits the road for its next two games, traveling to
Southern Connecticut and Adelphi for contests on Saturday and
Sunday. Both games are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
