MANCHESTER, N.H. -- The
Saint Anselm women's soccer team picked up their first win of the
season as they opened their Northeast-10 Conference play on the
road at Assumption College. The Hawks beat the Greyhounds 1-0
in a tight defensive struggle that began at 7:00 pm this
evening.
Junior forward Jennifer Pearl (Stoughton,
Mass.) scored the game's only goal at 19:35 in the first
period, assisted by freshman Kelli Duggan (Easton,
Mass.). The duo each picked up their fourth point on
the play. Pearl now has two goals and Duggan has one goal and
two assists so far this season.
The rest of the game was quiet as the two teams combined to take
just 11 shots. Both goalkeepers, Jacqueline Cooney
(Braintree, Mass.) of Saint Anselm and Lauren
Keating (Nashua, N.H.) of Assumption, had just two saves,
one in each half.
With the win, Saint Anselm improves to 1-1-1 (1-0, NE-10) to
share the top spot in the conference standings. Assumption
drops to 0-1 (0-1, NE-10). The Hawks return home on Saturday,
September 5th, to take on the Owls of Southern
Connecticut State University at Melucci Field, beginning at 12:00
pm.
