MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint
Anselm men's soccer team traveled to Syracuse, N.Y. this afternoon
to take on the No. 23 Le Moyne College Dolphins. After 90
minutes of play, the Hawks came up empty-handed, as they fell to
the Dolphins by a score of 2-0.
The game started out quiet, with just one shot on goal, by
Dolphin Zach Kuzemka (Chenango Forks, N.Y.), in
the entire half, until, at 35:02, Vince Scaravillo
(Syracuse, N.Y.) headed in a pass by Angelo Reina
(Frankfort, N.Y.) to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead.
As it turned out, the first goal was all Le Moyne would need, as
the Dolphins and goalkeeper Steve White (Cortland,
N.Y.) held the Hawks scoreless through both periods.
Even so, at 89:00, with exactly one minute left in the game,
Kuzemka had a quick breakaway and beat Hawk keeper John
Corridan (Holliston, Mass.) inside the post to ensure the
Dolphins a 2-0 win.
The Dolphins outshot the Hawks 13-8, but neither team was
particularly accurate, with the Dolphins leading just 4-2 in shots
on goal. Both Corridan and White had two saves in the
game. With the win, the Dolphins improve to 5-1-1 (2-1,
NE-10) and the Hawks fall to 0-6-1 (0-3, NE-10).
The Hawks continue to chase their first win as they travel to
Burlington, Vt. to face the Saint Michael's College Purple Knights
on Tuesday, September 22nd. The match is slated to begin at
4:00 pm.
