Manchester, N.H. (September 12) -- Despite a
spectacular 20-save performance by freshman goalie Lindsay
MacDonald (Dedham, Mass.), the Saint Anselm field hockey
team fell to No. 10 Stonehill by a 2-1 final in overtime on a rainy
Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, the Hawks struck at the 45:52 mark
as Morgan Seney (Bow, N.H.) converted her first
goal of the season for the 1-0 lead. The goal came on a penalty
corner as Seney tipped home the pass from Maura Hurley
(Holden, Mass.).
Stonehill held an incredible 37-2 advantage in penalty corners
in the contest and converted one late in regulation to tie the game
at 1-1. The Skyhawks put together seven straight corners at one
point before Courtney Foley notched the game-tying
goal with just 3:03 left on the clock.
In the overtime, the Skyhawks had nine more penalty corners,
resulting in seven saves by Saint Anselm's MacDonald in goal. As
time expired in the overtime period though, Lindsay
Pinkham played through the horn signaling the end of the
period and scored the game winner to extend Stonehill's winning
streak to five straight games.
MacDonald, who now has 40 saves in her last three games, took
the hard-luck loss to drop to 0-5 overall. Courtney
Osier made three saves to pick up her fifth win of the
season.
The Hawks are now 0-5 overall, while Stonehill is 5-2 on the
season. The Hawks are back in action on September 16th as the team
hosts Franklin Pierce for a 4 p.m. start.
