Manchester, N.H. (April 9)-The Saint Anselm
College women's lacrosse team fell to cross-town rival Southern New
Hampshire 14-9 in NE-10 action on Thursday afternoon at Grappone
Stadium. The loss drops the Hawks to 4-7 overall and 3-4 in NE-10
play, while the win improves the Penmen 8-3 overall and 5-1 in
league contests.
Southern New Hampshire started off the game scoring three
unanswered goals for the 3-0 lead. Libby Parent (Hinesburg,
Vt.), Lucretia Joy (Portland, Maine) and
Carole Lee (Derry, N.H.) each netted a goal for
the Penmen before the 24:34 mark.
The Hawks would storm right back scoring the next four goals to
take the 4-3 lead. Freshman Meghan Smith (Pittsford,
N.Y.) would score a goal and add an assist in less than
two minutes, while senior Michaela Rocha (Rye,
N.H.) netted two goals and junior Alyson McDonough
(Brunswick, Maine) added a single tally for Saint Anselm.
The Penmen scored twice more before the half, including Parent's
goal with 17 seconds left, to take a 5-4 lead into the break.
Rocha and Smith continued to add goals and sophomore
Courtney Ford (Concord, Mass.) scored at the 19:34
mark to take a 8-6 lead.
After that it was all Penmen as they rattled off four straight
goals and eight of the last nine to defeat the Hawks 14-9.
Rocha led Saint Anselm with five goals and an assist while Smith
compiled two goals and an assist in the loss. Sophomore goaltender
Katherine O'Hara (Norwell, Mass.) made eight saves
and allowed 14 goals in the losing effort.
Parent led the Southern New Hampshire with a game-high seven
points on five goals and two assists. Netminder Katie Clark
(Norwich, Conn.) made six saves and allowed only nine
goals to pick up her fifth win of the season.
Saint Anselm returns to action, Wednesday, April 15th, as they
will travel to Franklin Pierce for a 6 p.m. start. Southern New
Hampshire returns to action Saturday, April 11th, as they will host
New Haven for a 1 p.m. NE-10 contest.
