Rindge, N.H. (April 15)-The Saint Anselm
College women's lacrosse team fell to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce
16-14 in overtime in NE-10 action at Sodexho Field. The loss drops
the Hawks to 4-8 overall and 3-5 in NE-10 play, while the win
improves the Ravens to 4-8 overall and 2-5 in conference games.
The Hawks started out with the lead scoring four of the first
five goals to take a 4-1 lead at the 16:31 mark in the first half.
Michaela Rocha
(Rye,
N.H.) netted her 46th and 47th
goals of the season in the first stanza for the Hawks.
After Franklin Pierce rattled off three straight goals,
Tia Karon
(Medford,
Mass.) gave Saint Anselm the lead
back on a free position shot with 7:57 remaining before halftime.
The Ravens would then score five of the next six goals to take a
9-6 lead at the half.
In the second half, Courtney Ford
(Concord,
Mass.) scored four of her five
goals in the second half to keep the Hawks in the game and tie it
at 12 with 6:59 left. Freshman Meghan Smith
(Pittsford,
Mass.) netted her 31st goal of
the season a minute and a half later to give the Hawks a 13-12
lead.
The Ravens would take the lead back, but Emily
Traicoff's (Beverly,
Mass.) goal with just over three
minutes left forced overtime.
In the overtime, Jordan Baillargeon
(Westfield,
Mass.) and Brianna Nash
(Oceanside,
N.Y.) each scored overtime
tallies for the Ravens for the 16-14 final.
Hawk goalie Katherine O'Hara
(Norwell,
Mass.) played 62 minutes of the
game and made 10 saves and allowed 14 goals until receiving a
yellow card in the second half. Backup netminder Sheila
Withey (Las Vegas,
Nevada) allowed the two overtime
goals to pick up her first loss of the season. Ravens goaltender
Jillian Bolduc
(Atkinson,
N.H.) made 15 saves and allowed
14 goals in the win.
The Hawks return to action, Tuesday, April 21st, as they will
travel to Assumption for a 7 p.m. start.
