Worcester, Mass. (April
21)-The Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team, led by
Michaela Rocha's (Rye, N.H.) nine points, defeated
the Greyhounds of Assumption 18-6 in NE-10 action on Tuesday
afternoon at the Multi-Sport Stadium. The win improves the Hawks to
5-8 overall and 4-5 in conference play, while the Greyhounds fall
to 1-9 overall and 1-8 in league games.
The Hawks scored the games first five goals, capped off by
Tia Karon's (Medford, Mass.) tally at the 15:22
mark. The Greyhounds notched their only goal of the first half
under a minute later and the Hawks rattled off six more goals when
Meghan Smith (Pittsford, N.Y.) scored with 1:13
left for a 11-1 lead at the half.
Rocha struck first in the second half, at the 26:39 mark for her
80th point of the season.
Assumption fought back by scoring three goals in a row, but the
Hawks would not be denied as Rocha scored the last two goals of the
game for the 18-6 Saint Anselm win.
Rocha finished the game with five goals and four assists, while
Courtney Ford (Concord, Mass.) had three goals and
two assists for five points. Smith was second on the night in goals
with four in the win.
Katherine O'Hara (Norwell, Mass.) played the
first half making four saves and allowed only one goal in the win,
while Sheila Withey (Las Vegas, Nevada) allowed
five goals and made five saves in the second half. Greyhounds
goalie Erica Bullock (Rindge, N.H.) allowed 11
goals and made five saves in the loss.
The Hawks return to action Friday, April 24th, as they will
travel to Bentley University for a 7 p.m. start to conclude their
NE-10 regular-season schedule.
