Waltham, Mass. (April 8) -- After leading 6-5
at halftime, the Saint Anselm men's lacrosse couldn't hold off No.
7 Bentley as the Falcons rallied for a 15-10 victory over the Hawks
in Northeast-10 play on Wednesday night.
Bentley jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the opening quarter
before Chris Murphy (Winchester, Mass.) and
Ryan McDonald (Bow, N.H.) scored twice in 33
seconds to cut the deficit to 3-2. After the Falcons pushed the
lead back to 4-2, the Hawks tallied four unanswered goals,
including three by Murphy, to seize a 6-4 lead with 8:10 left in
the second quarter.
After the 6-5 halftime score, the Falcons tied the game with a
man-up goals with 10:27 left in the third. Justin Hall
(Sudbury, Mass.) answered for Saint Anselm though as the
Hawks regained the lead at 7-6 midway through the quarter. The
hosts took control from that point though, scoring nine of the
game's next 10 goals to make it a 15-8 margin with 4:09 left in the
fourth quarter. Murphy and Jeff Dunkle (Exeter,
N.H.) rounded out the scoring in the 15-10 setback.
Murphy led the Hawks with five goals, while Dunkle added two.
Matt O'Connell (Charlestown, Mass.), the NE-10
leader in assists per game, has a pair of assists in the loss.
Dan Flynn (Wakefield, Mass.) made 14 saves in the
loss.
Brad Tunis had five goals for the Falcons,
while Kevin Gould had three goals and four
assists. Kris Dambach made 12 saves for the win.
Saint Anselm drops to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the Northeast-10,
while Bentley improves to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the league. The
Hawks are back in action on Saturday, April 11th when the team
travels to Pace for a Northeast-10 contest beginning at 1 p.m.
