Colchester, Vt. (April 22) -- The Saint Anselm
men's lacrosse team dropped a 9-7 final to Saint Michael's in
Northeast-10 play on Wednesday afternoon to fall to 6-6 overall and
4-4 in the Northeast-10 Conference for the season.
The Purple Knights jumped out to a 4-1 lead after one quarter
and held a 6-2 lead midway through the second period. Matt
Surette (Wakefield, Mass.) and Jeff Dunkle
(Exeter, N.H.) scored the final two goals of the first
half as the Hawks trailed 6-4 at the halftime break.
The Purple Knights took an 8-4 lead into the fourth quarter
before the Hawks pulled back to within a pair of goals with 8:58
left in the period after the 29th goal of the season by senior
Chris Murphy (Winchester, Mass.).
The two teams traded goals in the final two minutes of the game
for the 9-7 final as both teams are now tied in the Northeast-10
standings.
The Hawks were led by two goals each from Surette, Ryan
McDonald (Bow, N.H.) and Dunkle, while goalie Dan
Flynn (Wakefield, Mass.) made 14 saves in net.
Saint Anselm is back in action on Friday afternoon, hosting
American International in the team's regular-season finale
beginning at 4 p.m. at Grappone Stadium.
