Hawks Fall to No. 25 Ravens 10-6

Manchester, N.H. (April 19)-The Saint Anselm College baseball team fell to the No. 25 ranked Ravens of Franklin Pierce 10-6 in NE-10 action at Sullivan Park on Sunday afternoon. The loss, which was the Hawks seventh in a row, drops their record to 12-23 overall and 8-12 in conference match-ups, while the win improves the Ravens to 23-14 and 14-5 in league games.

After the Ravens scored a run in the top of the first, the Hawks crossed the plate five times in the bottom of the second to take a 5-1 lead. Melvin Perdue (Jonesboro, Georgia) and Ben Gunn (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) ripped back-to-back RBI singles and Dan DeCoste (Chelmsford, Mass.) drew an RBI walk for Saint Anselm.

Franklin Pierce cut into the lead on a two-run round tripper from Steve Carr (Nahant, Mass.) to make it 5-3 Hawks.

In the bottom of the fifth, Saint Anselm extended their lead to 6-3 when Eric Simm (Salem, N.H.) scored on an error by Franklin Pierce shortstop Colin Halloran (Tyngsboro, Mass.).

From the seventh inning on it was all Ravens, as they added seven runs over the last three innings to come away with the 10-6 NE-10 victory. Carr finished the day 4-for-5 with two homeruns and a double for Franklin Pierce. Derek Ingui's (Sterling, Mass.) three-run dinger put the game out of reach for the Hawk loss.

Saint Anselm starter Joe Latino (Holden, Mass.) went 6.1 innings allowing three earned runs and striking out three in the no decision. Hawks reliever Jeffrey Donnis (Hatfield, Mass.) took the loss giving up three earned runs in an inning. Franklin Pierce closer Rob Nicholas (Northboro, Mass.) picked up the win throwing two scoreless innings allowing only one hit.

The Hawks return to action tomorrow, April 20th, as they will host Stonehill College for a 3:30 NE-10 game.
