Hawks Split With Bentley on Sunday, 7-6 and 4-2

Manchester, N.H. (April 19) -- Saint Anselm took game two by a 4-2 final to earn a split with Bentley University in Northeast-10 softball action. The Hawks fell to the Falcons by a 7-6 final in the first game of the doubleheader.

The Falcons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before the Hawks got on the board in the third on an RBI double down the left field line by senior Brittany Birch (Bradford, Mass.). Saint Anselm took the lead in the fourth inning with a pair of runs, scoring Jackie Giannino (Beverly, Mass.) with a triple by Liz LeBrun (Rowley, Mass.) and a sacrifice fly by Liz Trafton (Berwick, Maine) scoring LeBrun.

Bentley answered back quickly though with five runs in the fifth and sixth innings and held a 7-3 advantage heading into the bottom of the seventh. Saint Anselm put up three runs behind a two-RBI double from Giannino and an RBI single to left center by LeBrun, but couldn't complete the rally in the 7-6 defeat.

Tara Fogarty went the distance for the Falcons to improve to 9-7 on the season, while Megan Lemire (Worcester, Mass.) struck out eight and dropped to 9-9 overall.

Giannino and LeBrun, along with Raylyn Glavin (Saugus, Mass.), all finished the game with two hits each.

In game two, the Falcons jumped on top  in the second as Jenna Crowell sent and RBI single up the middle to score Lindsay Ayers from second. The Hawks took a 2-1 lead in the third though as LeBrun homered to left field, her third homer of the season. Saint Anselm padded its lead to 4-1 in the fourth behind RBI singles from Kayla McEachern (Stoneham, Mass.) and Birch as the Hawks put up four hits in the inning.

Bentley got to within 4-2 in the fifth as Alex Hitchcock roped an RBI double to center that scored Jasmine Ortiz. Lisa Caruso (Granby, Conn.) pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh though for the 4-2 win to improve to 2-4 on the season. Giannino, Glavin and McEachern each finished with two hits in the victory. Andrea Messina took the loss for Bentley and is now 8-7 overall.

With the split, Saint Anselm now sits at 15-20-1 overall and 7-12-1 in the Northeast-10, while Bentley is 17-15 overall and 10-10 in league play.

Saint Anselm is back in action on Tuesday, April 21st as the team travels to Pace for a Northeast-10 doubleheader.
