Manchester, N.H. (April 14)-The Saint Anselm
College softball team dropped a doubleheader to the Skyhawks of
Stonehill College 5-2 and 4-0 Tuesday afternoon at the South
Athletic Fields in NE-10 action. The losses drops the Hawks to
12-17-1 overall and 4-9-1 in conference games, while the wins lift
the Skyhawks to 8-16 overall and 8-4 in NE-10 play.
In game one, Saint Anselm pitcher Megan Lemire
(Worcester,
Mass.) allowed only one run after
loading the bases with no outs in the top of the first inning.
The Hawks took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, when
Jaclyn Giannino
(Beverley,
Mass.) and Kat Scafidi
(Hudson,
N.H.) each ripped RBI singles to
make it 2-1 Saint Anselm.
But the Skyhawks would add two runs in the top of the sixth and
seventh innings led by Courtney Young's
(Danvers,
Mass.) two-run home run for the
5-2 Saint Anselm loss.
Lemire would take the loss for the Hawks, going the distance
allowing five runs on nine hits and striking out four.
Samantha Krantz (Hampton
Bays,
N.Y.) went seven innings allowing
seven hits and two runs while striking out five in the win.
The second game started the same for Stonehill, as Katy
Abarr (Richmond,
R.I.) would score on a wild pitch
to make it 1-0 visitors.
In the top of the fourth, the Skyhawks added to their lead when
Young homered for the second time in as many games.
Stonehill would add another on Kate Brides
(West Bridgewater,
Mass.) RBI triple for the 4-0
loss.
Britnee O'Neil
(Ashland,
Mass.) went seven innings for the
Hawks allowing only three earned runs on seven hits and striking
out four in the losing effort. Kaitlin Andrews
(Hudson,
Mass.) went the distance allowing
only two Hawk hits and no runs in the win.
The Hawks return to action on Thursday, April 16th, as they will
host Assumption at 3:30 p.m.
