Manchester, N.H. (April 16) -- The Saint Anselm
College softball team split with the Greyhounds of Assumption with
a 9-4 loss and a 5-1 win in NE-10 play on Thursday afternoon. The
split makes the Hawks 13-18-1 overall and 5-10-1 in conference
play, while the split makes Assumption 15-17 overall and 9-7 in
conference games.
In game one, the Hawks had a 3-0 lead through two innings as
Moira McCabe (Brookline, N.H.) and
Katherine Theodorou (Glen Clove, N.Y.) each
grabbed RBI singles and Jaclyn Giannino (Beverly,
Mass.) had an RBI hit by pitch for Saint Anselm.
Assumption cut the lead by scoring twice in the third inning and
exploded for seven runs in the top of the fifth for the 9-4 lead.
Caitlin Clary (Belmont, N.H.) started the fifth
with an RBI single and Ashley Bilodeau's (Manchester,
Conn.) two-RBI single ended it in the Greyhound win.
Saint Anselm reliever Brittnee O'Neill (Ashland,
Mass.) took the loss in relief of Lisa Caruso
(Granby, Conn.). Greyhound starter Jennifer Lowrey
(Assonet, Mass.) went the distance, allowing six hits and
four runs in the win.
Assumption took an early lead in the second game as Bilodeau's
RBI single gave the Greyhounds an early 1-0 lead.
It stayed that way until the bottom of the fourth, until senior
catcher Brittany Birch (Bradford, Mass.) ripped a
two-RBI single to give the Hawks the lead. Julie Beaudry's
(Worcester, Mass.) RBI sacrifice bunt in the fifth and
Birch and Theodorou both scored unearned runs in the sixth for the
5-1 win.
Hawk starter Megan Lemire (Worcester, Mass.)
went the distance for the Hawks, allowing the first inning run and
scattering five hits for her eighth win of the season. Greyhound
reliever Casey Halajian (Quincy, Mass.) took the
loss, allowing two runs on four hits in 1.1 innings in the losing
effort.
The Hawks return to action, Saturday, April 18th, as the Hawks
will travel to Merrimack for a Noon start.
