Cocoa Beach, Fla. -- The Saint Anselm softball
team closed out its trip to Florida with a 6-6 overall record. The
Hawks began the trip at 6-2 before dropping their final four games,
including three of those by just one run.
On March 5th, the Hawks split with Cedarville as the team took
game on by a 10-7 final and dropped game two, 5-4. In game one, the
Hawks put up five runs in the fourth inning to take control.
Brittany Birch (Bradford, Mass.) was 3-for-4
with two runs scored and two runs batted in, while
Katherine Theodorou (Glen Cove, N.Y.) was 2-for-4
with two runs scored and two RBI in game one. Morgan Murphy
(Orange, Mass.) blasted a two-run homer in the fourth as
well. Liz Trafton got the win in the game, going the final two
innings and giving up just one hit. In the second game,
Britnee O'Neill (Ashland, Mass.) took the loss,
giving up just five hits in seven innings. Theodorou was 3-for-4,
while Jaclyn Giannino (Beverly, Mass.) was 2-for-3
with two runs batted in.
The Hawks dropped the final game of that day by a 3-1 margin,
with Megan Lemire (Worcester, Mass.) taking the
loss, her first of the season. She went seven innings, giving up
just four hits with seven strikeouts. Theodorou was 2-for-3, while
Kayla McEachern (Stoneham, Mass.) was also 2-for-3
with one run scored.
Saint Anselm closed the trip with a pair of one-run losses to
regional rival Mercy College. The Hawks fell in game one by a 9-8
final in eight innings and by a 5-4 margin in the second game. The
Hawks will have the opportunity to face the Mavericks again though
as the team travels to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. on March 14th for a
non-conference doubleheader.
