Hawks Drop NE-10 Semifinal to No. 5 Assumption

Worcester, Mass. (March 5) -- Saint Anselm could not overcome blistering shooting from fifth-seeded Assumption as the Hawks fell to the Greyhounds by a 90-67 final on Thursday evening in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Semifinals.

The story of the first half was three-point shooting as the Greyhounds hit 12-of-17 from deep, shooting 70.6 percent from behind the arc. Assumption put together a 28-10 run midway through the half and with 3:46 left in the period, the Greyhounds held a 48-19 advantage. The lead stood at 26 with 1:51 on the clock before four quick points by junior Giovanni Carenza (East Hanover, N.J.) made it a 52-30 game at the halftime break. The Hawks continued to fight in the opening of the second half and cut the lead down to 70-53 midway through the period after a three by Pat Luptowski (Keene, N.H.) and a jumper by Carenza. The Greyhounds were too much for the visitors though as they advanced with the 23-point victory.
