(March 28) -- Saint Anselm opened its 2009 home
schedule with a 20-9 loss to No. 7 ranked New Haven on Saturday
afternoon at Melucci Field. The Hawks fall to 2-6 overall and 1-5
in the Northeast-10 with the setback.
The Chargers, who remain unbeaten at 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the
Northeast-10, jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the first half. A
pair of Hawk goals by sophomore Courtney Ford (Concord,
Mass.) cut the lead to 6-4 before the Chargers put up nine
straight goals to stretch the lead to 15-4. The two teams were
nearly even in the second half as the Chargers held a 5-4
advantage, en route to the victory.
Ford led the Hawks with five goals, while senior
Michaela Rocha (Rye, N.H.) had three goals and one
assist. Katherine O'Hara (Norwell, Mass.) turned
aside eight shots in the defeat. Brigid Brady led
the Chargers with five goals, along with four scores from
Sarah Mangone. Maureen Spellman
made four saves for the win.
Saint Anselm is back in action on April 4th as the Hawks host
American International for a 1 p.m. game.
