Hawks Pull Away for 11-6 Win Over Greyhounds

Worcester, Mass. (March 25) -- Six unanswered goals in the third quarter helped Saint Anselm to an 11-6 victory over Assumption on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference play. The win is the third straight for Saint Anselm, now 3-2 overall on the season.

All the scoring in the first quarter came from the Hawks as senior Matt Surette (Wakefield, Mass.) scored a pair and All-American candidate Chris Murphy (Winchester, Mass.) scored to make it 3-0 in favor of the visitors after one period. Assumption quickly answered in the second before Jeff Dunkle (Exeter, N.H.) tallied his first goal of the game with 32 seconds left in the period for a 4-3 Saint Anselm lead at halftime.

Assumption scored twice in the first 4:15 of the third quarter for the 5-4 lead before the Saint Anselm offense came alive. Dunkle and Murphy both had a pair of goals to make it 10-5 after three periods, along with single goals from Surette and Matt O'Connell (Charlestown, Mass.). After the Greyhounds opened the fourth with a goal to cut the lead to 10-6, Dunkle closed out the scoring with his fourth goal of the afternoon and the 11-6 victory.
