Waterbury,
Conn. (March 20)-The Saint Anselm
College baseball team fell to the Eagles of Post University 8-7,
Friday afternoon in non-conference action. The loss drops the Hawks
to 3-9 on the season, while the win improves the Eagles to 6-4 in
2009.
The Hawks struck in the top of the first off a two-RBI double
from TJ Murphy
(Reading,
Mass.). The very next batter,
freshman first baseman Benjamin Waldrip
(Medford,
Mass.), cracked Saint Anselm's
first home-run of the season to put the Hawks up 4-0.
In the bottom of the first and third the Eagles would score
three runs to take a 6-4 lead. Post was led by designated hitter
Tyler Wilschetz's
(Dallas,
Texas) four RBI's on a first
inning single and a third inning triple.
Saint Anselm College would take the lead right back in the top
half of the fourth on a passed ball scoring Eric Baca
(Franklin, N.H.). Senior shortstop Ben Gunn
(Vineyard Haven, Mass.)
would then cut a RBI single and later score for the 7-6 lead.
Post would take the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth, on
a two-RBI single from Jeff Lundell
(Henderson,
Nevada) for the 8-7
non-conference Saint Anselm loss.
Sophomore pitcher Kyle Lavin
(Shelton,
Conn.) took the loss going two
innings and allowing three hits and two earned runs. Eagles hurler
Tom Sirois
(Cheshire,
Conn.) grabbed the win going five
and a third innings allowing no runs and only three hits in relief.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow, March 21st, with a road
doubleheader against conference foe Pace University beginning at
noon.
