Hawks Drown Seahawks 2-1 on Senior Day

Manchester, N.H. (February 14)-On a day when the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey program celebrated senior day for five players and their manager, the Hawks, led by senior Kathleen Twomey's (Londonderry, N.H.) two goals, skated to a 2-1 victory over the Seahawks of Salve Regina University on Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Arena. The win improves the Hawks to 15-6-2 on the year, while the loss drops the Seahawks to 14-8-0 on the season.

The first period featured seven penalties, five of which were on the Hawks, and a key five-on-three penalty kill to keep it tied at zero heading into the period.

Saint Anselm struck 33 ticks into the second period when freshman Sami Tatu (Waterford, Michigan) took a shot from the blue line and Twomey redirected the shot past Salve Regina goalie Rebecca Simmons (Averill Park, N.Y.) to make it 1-0 Hawks. Senior forward Bianca DeSantis (Georgetown, Mass.) was also credited with an assist. The Seahawks bounced back just over a minute later when Kristen Cokely (Cambridge, Mass.) beat Saint Anselm goalie Amy Zappen (Huntington Beach, California) to even the game at one heading into the final period.

In the third the Hawks took the lead for good on the game-winner from Twomey, with the assists again going to DeSantis and Tatu for the 2-1 ECAC East victory.

Zappen set aside 21 shots in the win, while Simmons made 25 stops in the losing effort.

The Hawks return to action, Friday, February 20th, as they will travel to Division I Syracuse for a 7 p.m. start.
