Hawks Drop 69-48 Road Final at Le Moyne

Syracuse, N.Y. (February 14) --  On Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Court, the Saint Anselm women's basketball team fell to Le Moyne by a 69-48 final in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Dolphins swept the regular-season series from the Hawks.

Le Moyne jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead in the first five minutes before the Hawks got on the board with a three-pointer from the corner by Justine Lyons (Reading, Mass.). After the Dolphins pushed the lead to 11, the Hawks crept back to 14-8 with 12:31 behind a pair of free throws from Katie Dorey (Burlington, Vt.) and a three-point play by Lyons. After the Dolphins pushed the lead back into double figures at 20-10, the Hawks used a three-pointer by Katie Larkin (Goffstown, N.H.) from the far corner to get back within seven with 9:33 left in the opening half. The Dolphins pushed the lead back into double figures over the final portion of the first half and took a 35-21 lead into the halftime break.

Saint Anselm fell behind by 21 points early in the second period, but pulled to within 48-32 with 10:35 left after a quick 6-0 scoring run. The Hawks got back to within 14 points at 49-35 after a three-point play from Megan Howard (St. Paul, Minn.) and pulled to 49-37 on a jumper from Larkin. The free throw by Howard gave her a double-double for the game, her 15th double-double of the season.

The Dolphins used a 15-7 run to push the lead back to 20 points with under three minutes remaining before Lyons knocked down a pair of free throws to make it 64-46. After another Lyons jumper pulled Saint Anselm within 12, the Dolphins pulled away for the 21-point victory.

Howard finished with 12 points and 16 rebounds, while Lyons finished with 12 points. Three Dolphins were in double figures, led by a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double by Vanessa Holden.

With the loss, Saint Anselm falls to 4-20 overall and 2-17 in the Northeast-10, while Le Moyne improves to 14-11 overall and 11-9 in league play. The Hawks are back in action on Monday evening as the team hosts Franklin Pierce for a makeup game beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Stoutenburgh Gym.
