Hawks Shine on Senior Day 4-2 over Hamilton

Manchester, N.H. (February 14)-The Hawks defeated the Continentals of Hamilton College 4-2 in league action on Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Arena on senior day. The win improves the Hawks to 9-11-2, while the loss drops the Continentals to 8-12-2 on the season.

Saint Anselm notched the lone score of the period on a goal by sophomore forward Brendan Carroll (Duxbury, Mass.) at the 4:43 mark from freshman defenseman Nick Rossi (Smithtown, N.Y.) to make it 1-0 Hawks. Senior goaltender Pat Gallagher (Framingham, Mass.) made 12 saves in the opening period to keep the visitors off the scoreboard.

In the second period, sophomore forward/defenseman Nick Wheeler (Nashua, N.H.) beat Continental goalie Mark Donovan (Pembroke, Mass.) off a rebound to extend the Hawk lead to 2-0 just over a minute into the period. Five minutes later freshman forward Brian Kelly (Plymouth, Mass.) put Hamilton on the board with a powerplay goal. Saint Anselm would extend their lead again on a breakaway goal from senior Matt Lowe (Stoughton, Mass.) as he beat Donovan top-shelf to make it 3-1 going into the final period.

Under four minutes into the third period, senior defenseman Mike Nunzianto (Guilford, Conn.) gave the Hawks a 4-1 lead off assists from Wheeler and senior Joe Fernald (Braintree, Mass.). With a minute and a half left the Continentals made it interesting with a goal with an extra attacker as they pulled their goalie and made it 4-2 on a goal by BJ Lalonde (Pointe Claire, Quebec). After Hamilton pulled their goalie again, Gallagher made a few saves in the final minute and the Hawks would skate on to the 4-2 win on senior day.

Gallagher made 35 saves to pick up his third win of the year, while Donovan made 37 stops in the losing effort.

The Hawks return to the ice, Friday, February 20th, as they will travel to Salem State at 7 p.m.
