Gorham, Maine - The Saint Anselm women's
ice hockey team traveled to Gorham, Maine this evening to take on
the University of Southern Maine Huskies in an ECAC East conference
match-up. Hawk captains Alexa Hingston (Charlestown,
Mass.) and Maria Dougherty (Middletown,
R.I.) each scored three points in the game as the Hawks
glided to a 4-2 victory over the Huskies.
Katie Paradis (Rochester, N.H.) wasted no time,
as she converted a pass from Katie Davis (Woburn,
Mass.) off the faceoff, to put the Huskies ahead 1-0 just
33 seconds into the game. Midway through the period, Alexa
Hingston tied the game, netting her third goal of the season at
11:57, assisted by Maria Dougherty and Sarah Ellins
(Greeley, Colo.). Eight minutes later, Dougherty
gave the Hawks the lead, scoring her team-leading fifth goal of the
season, assisted by Hingston and Ciara Petry (Poolesville,
Md.).
Before the first minute of the second period ended, Alexa
Hingston scored a breakaway, unassisted goal, the eventual
game-winner, to give the Hawks a solid 3-1 lead. Southern
Maine's Kailey Bubier (Auburn, Maine) capitalized
on a five-on-three power play in the last minute of the second, to
cut the Hawks' lead in half. But at the end of the third,
Ellins netted her second career goal to give the Hawks a 4-2
victory.
Three-time Goalie of the Week Amy Zappen (Huntington
Beach, Calif.), who continues to lead the conference in
both goals against average and save percentage, made 19 saves in
the game and allowed two goals to pick up her fourth win of the
season. Husky starter Jackie Zarb (Grosse Point
Woods, Mich.) made eight saves and allowed three goals in
20:50 minutes to earn her third loss, and Molly Passerini
(Wakefield, Mass.) made 13 saves and allowed just one goal
in 39:10 minutes of relief.
The win lifts the Hawks to 6-1-1 (5-1-1 ECAC East), while the
Huskies fall to 2-6-1 (2-5 ECAC East). The Hawks conclude
their four-game road trip on Tuesday, December 8th, when they take
on the University of Massachusetts-Boston Beacons in a conference
game beginning at 7:00 pm.
