Hawks Rally From Early Deficit For 80-72 Victory

Manchester, N.H. (December 21) -- Led by a 23-point, 10-rebound double-double by junior Thomas Baudinet (Watertown, Conn.), Saint Anselm overcame an 11-point, first-half deficit in an 80-72 victory over Post University at Stoutenburgh Gym. The Hawks improve to 5-4 overall with the victory.

Post jumped out to a 13-9 lead in the first six minutes and pushed the advantage into double digits at 21-11 on a jumper by Rashamell Vereen. After the Eagles pushed the lead to 11 points with 8:58 left, the Hawks embarked on a 16-6 run to tied the game at 27 with 4:22 left in the first half. Saint Anselm took its first lead of the half on a basket from Pat Luptowski (Keene, N.H.) and went into the break up 36-35 following a three-pointer by Greg Vetrano (Andover, Mass.) with under a minute left in the period. Jack Keough (Owego, N.Y.) led the Hawks with 14 first-half points, along with 10 points from Baudinet.

The two teams traded the lead over the first five minutes of the second half, but it was the Hawks that took the lead for good at 48-47 on a putback by Quinn Woodhouse (Gaylord, Mich.). Saint Anselm pushed the lead to as many as 10 points twice in the remaining minutes, including at 69-59 with 7:08 remaining. The Eagles closed the deficit down to three with 4:17 left, but that was as close as the visitors would get in the eight-point Saint Anselm win. The Hawks are now 2-0 all-time vs. Post University.

Baudinet led the Hawks with 23 points and 10 boards, while Keough added 17 points and Luptowski was in double digits with 10. Trevon Hamlet had 23 points on 10-for-15 shooting for the Eagles, along with 14 points for Nyheem Sanders and 10 by Larry Grant.

Saint Anselm is now 5-4 overall, while the Eagles drop to 3-6 on the season. Saint Anselm is back in action on December 29th and 30th as the Hawks travel to the Bridgeport Holiday Classic in Bridgeport, Conn. The Hawks take on Post University on day one, followed by a day two matchup with the host Purple Knights.
