MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Anselm men's
soccer team traveled to New Haven, Conn. this afternoon for the
second round of the Northeast-10 Tournament. The Hawks looked
for their second consecutive upset after knocking off the
top-seeded Southern New Hampshire Penmen on Sunday afternoon, but
the fourth-seeded Southern Connecticut State University Owls were
too much for the Hawks, as they fell in today's match by a score of
1-0.
The Hawks outshot the Owls 16-10, putting nine on target for a
.563 shots-on-goal percentage. The Owls managed only two
shots on goal, but that was all they needed, as at 19:41 in the
first half, Cedric Panzu (Mons-en-Baroeul, France)
converted a pass from Paul Templeton (Saltcoats,
Scotland) to net the only goal of the game, and give the
Owls a bid to the Northeast-10 Championship.
Owl goalkeeper Chris Rybacki (Putnam, Conn.)
made nine saves in the game and the Hawks' Eric Moriarty
(Center Harbor, N.H.) made just one. The Owls
(14-4-1, 9-3-1 NE-10) will play the number-two seed Le Moyne
College Dolphins in Syracuse, N.Y. on Saturday for the Northeast-10
Championship. The Hawks conclude their season 7-9-3 overall,
6-5-2 in the Northeast-10.
