Halfway through the second period, Byrne scored a goal of her own, her team-leading third of the season, assisted by Giarrusso and senior team captain Maria Dougherty (Middletown, R.I.).  Before the end of the period, Giarrusso picked up her third point of the game, scoring the team's fifth goal with assists from juniors Sarah Ellins (Greeley, Colo.) and captain Alexa Hingston (Charlestown, Mass.), running the Hawks' lead to 5-0.  With just over a minute remaining in the second period, Meagan Hulbert (Barre, Vt.) put the Spartans on the board, scoring her first goal of the season, assisted by freshman Christine Newton (Ogden, Utah).

Six minutes into the third period, Dougherty scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Sylvester and sophomore Marissa Serafino (Rutland, Vt.).  With one minute remaining in the game, Hingston tacked on the team's seventh goal of the night, and Dougherty and Byrne each picked up their third point of the game with another assist.  Then, with just five seconds remaining in the game, freshman Corinne Myers (San Jose, Calif.) scored her first career goal, assisted by Angela Zevnik (Greenfield, Wisc.) and Molly Corl to put the final score at 8-1, Hawks.

Freshman Meghan Grant (Melrose, Mass.) made her first career start in goal, making seven saves and allowing just one goal in the game to pick up her first win.  Spartan goalie Amanda Hoy (Brockport, N.Y.) made 47 saves in the game and allowed all eight goals.  The Hawks outshot the Spartans 55-8 and scored on three out of their five power plays for a .600 percentage.  Byrne, Giarrusso, and Dougherty each scored three points in the game on one goal and two assists.  Sylvester, Hingston, and Corl all recorded two points in the game.
