No. 4 Stonehill Pulls Away in Second Half For Win

Easton, Mass. (October 9) -- Saint Anselm took an early 1-0 lead, but No. 4 Stonehill proved too strong for the Hawks as the league-leading Skyhawks pulled away for a 5-1 victory in Northeast-10 Conference play on Friday afternoon.

The Hawks jumped out to the early 1-0 lead at the 12:30 mark as sophomore Morgan Seney (Bow, N.H.) scored her second goal of the season, assisted by Annie Heaney (East Kingston, N.H.). The score remained that way for nearly 20 minutes before Claire Hourihan scored her 15th goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1 heading into halftime.

Hourihan scored at the 44:21 mark to give the Skyhawks a 2-1 lead and the hosts added three goals in an eight-minute span to pull away for the 5-1 win.

Lindsey MacDonald (Dedham, Mass.) played the first 61:07 of the game for the Hawks, making four saves. Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.) played the final 8:53, making one save and allowing one goal. Courtney Osier made one save for the Skyhawks as Stonehill outshot Saint Anselm by a 21-1 margin in the game.

With the loss, the Hawks fall to 1-12 overall and are now 0-6 in the Northeast-10. Stonehill improves to 11-3 overall and 5-1 in league play. Saint Anselm returns to action on Thursday, October 15th as the team hosts No. 5 UMass Lowell for a 4 p.m. start.
