MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Anselm men's
soccer team traveled to American International College this evening
to take on the Yellow Jackets in Northeast-10 Conference
play. The Hawks rallied back from an early 1-0 deficit to
defeat the Yellow Jackets by a score of 2-1. The win lifts
the Hawks to 6-7-3 (6-4-2 NE-10) while the Yellow Jackets fall to
7-11 (4-8 NE-10).
The Yellow Jackets got on the board first, as Ohionameh
Aregbeyen (Brooklyn, N.Y.) netted an unassisted goal at
25:46 in the first period to put American International ahead,
1-0. However, before the end of the half, Hawk senior
Paul Kilday (Marshfield, Mass.) countered with an
unassisted goal of his own to knot the score at one apiece heading
into halftime.
The score remained tied for the majority of the second half but
just when it looked like the game was heading into overtime,
freshman Maximilian Glebocki (Wilbraham, Mass.)
sent a pass to junior Keesen Howe (Norwich, Conn.)
at 88:13, with less than two minutes remaining in regulation. Howe
laced a hard shot into the net to score the game-winning goal and
give the Hawks a 2-1 victory.
The Yellow Jackets narrowly outshot the Hawks, 15-12. Hawk
goalkeeper Eric Moriarty (Center Harbor, N.H.) had
five saves in the game and Yellow Jacket Ryan Brooks-Newton
(Selkirk, N.Y.) had three.
The Hawks currently sit in sixth place in the Northeast-10
Conference standings, and with just one game remaining in the
regular season, tonight's victory ensured the team a bid to the
Northeast-10 Tournament which begins on Sunday, November 1st.
The Hawks will conclude their regular season on Wednesday,
October 28th when they travel to Bentley University to take on the
Falcons in their final Northeast-10 Conference game before the
playoffs. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm.
