Rindge, N.H. - The Saint Anselm women's soccer
team traveled to Rindge, N.H. this afternoon to take on the
Franklin Pierce University Ravens in Northeast-10 Conference
play. The Hawks held off the advancing Ravens for over 89
minutes, but the Saint Anselm offense struggled to get going, and
with just 24 seconds remaining in the game, the NSCAA East No. 3
Ravens netted the game-winning goal to claim a 1-0 victory over the
Hawks. The win lifts the Ravens to 13-3-1 (11-2-1 NE-10)
while the Hawks fall to 7-8-1 (6-7 NE-10).
The Ravens' offense dominated the ball, outshooting the Hawks
25-4, but the Saint Anselm defense was solid and kept the ball out
of the box, allowing just nine shots on goal. However, the
Hawks' offense could not put anything together, and at 89:36, with
just 24 seconds remaining in regulation, Gabriela Demoner
(Vitoria, Brazil) sent a pass to Amanda Panaro
(Rockland, Mass.) at the top of the box, who beat
goalkeeper Jacqueline Cooney (Braintree, Mass.) at
the top-right corner and netted the dramatic game-winner.
Cooney had eight saves in the game, and Raven keeper
Jocelyn Leon (Lenox, Mass.) had just three.
The Hawks return home this Saturday, October 24th to host the
American International College Yellow Jackets at 12:30 pm. Be
sure to arrive on time, as Saint Anselm will be honoring the Hawks'
six seniors for all of their contributions to the women's soccer
program. The Hawks will close out their season the following
Wednesday, October 28th, when they host the Bentley University
Falcons for their final chance to clinch a spot in the Northeast-10
Tournament beginning on November 1st.
